The short version. Peckish has no accounts and no analytics. Your diary is stored on your iPhone. To estimate a meal, the app sends what you typed or photographed to Claude, Anthropic's model, through a small relay service we run — the relay adds the API key, hands the message to Anthropic and keeps no copy. Nothing you log is stored on our side. Before the very first message leaves your iPhone, the app tells you this and asks you to agree; until you do, nothing is sent.

The first time the app is about to make one of these requests, it names Claude, lists what the request contains and asks you to agree. Nothing is sent before you do — not a message you typed, not a phrase given to Siri, not the weekly note. Declining leaves your message where you wrote it; the app keeps working as a diary you fill in and edit by hand, and it asks again the next time you try to send.

Photos are only included in the message you attach them to — earlier photos are never re-sent. The request travels from your device to a small relay service we run on Cloudflare, which adds our API key and passes it on to Anthropic — the app itself holds no key and needs no account. The relay keeps no copy of your messages or photos. Standard technical logs (timestamps, status codes, IP address) are kept briefly by the infrastructure to run and protect the service — never the content. Each request also carries an App Check attestation proving it comes from a genuine copy of the app; it identifies the app, not you. It carries one more thing: a random identifier for your installation of the app — not your name, not your Apple Account, and not anything you have logged. The relay uses it for a single purpose, to count how many requests that installation has made today, so that no one copy can run up an unbounded bill. What is kept against it is that count and today's date, overwritten when the day turns. On Anthropic's side, requests are processed under Anthropic's privacy policy and API terms; Anthropic does not use API data to train its models by default.

There is no sign-up, no user profile and no advertising. The app contains no analytics, attribution, crash-reporting or tracking SDKs, and it does not use the advertising identifier. Beyond relaying your message when you ask for an estimate, nothing you log is transmitted anywhere, nothing is stored by the developer, and nothing is shared with data brokers.

Health sync is off until you turn it on and grant permission. When it is on, each logged item is written to Health as a food entry — energy, protein, carbs and fat — and editing or deleting the item updates or removes that Health entry too.

It also reads two things, and only these two: the active energy you have burned today, so a day with a run in it has room for the run, and your latest recorded weight. Both are read on the device, and both are included in the summary sent with an estimate request (§ 02 above). Nothing else in Health is read, and turning sync off stops both the reading and the writing.

Items logged before you enabled sync are not written retroactively. If you switch sync off, writing stops, but entries already in Health stay there until you remove them in the Health app.

The camera is used only when you tap it to photograph a meal. Choosing an existing photo goes through the system picker, which hands the app just the one image you select. The optional daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device; setting it sends nothing anywhere.

Removing an item from the log removes its Health entry as well, when Health sync is on. Deleting the app from your iPhone deletes the whole diary and the stored photos. Because there is no account and our relay stores no content, there is nothing on our side to request deletion of. Requests already processed by Anthropic are subject to Anthropic's own retention policy.
